ABOUT US

At Under The Wing, we believe in the importance of community, creativity, and of finding time for yourself to let your hair down and find that spark of joy through art. This what our classes are all about, as domestic abuse can take a tremendous toll on a person. Having to navigate through the trauma and obstacles that come with that, we want to help people find relief from that.

In order to restore that balance, our classes give people a space to put the focus back on themselves, to discover something that will make their lives brighter, alongside people who understand what they’ve been through. Art is about the creation of something unique, the exploration of what matters to you, and about enjoying the world we have. And that is something we should all be able to share in.

HOW IT WORKS

“Pay it Forward”

Workshops for the general public are held once a week and are open to anyone who wants to come explore their creative side. The cost of these workshops goes towards funding workshops for women and children that are going through Women’s Aid.

The paid classes aren’t just a way to explore your creativity and artistry – they’re a vital way of supporting those who desperately need it. All profits go to help fund Under The Wing in its work in supporting those who have been affected by domestic abuse.

WHY ART

We believe that by bringing free art workshops and support to women and children who have been affected by domestic abuse, we can make our community a better and brighter place. The art classes provided all seek to utilise the nurturing and healing potential of arts and crafts as a way to help people to explore the creative aspects of their self.

Under The Wing offers a range of different workshops ran by acclaimed professional artists, which are suitable for people from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels, as an ideal way to unlock creativity whilst contributing to a worthy cause.

The scope of Under The Wing goes beyond just these lessons though, with art materials provided for students to take home, a yearly exhibition, and a commitment to fostering a sense of community and support networks that showcases how art can bring people together.
